Norte Region in northern Portugal has a Mediterranean climate with warm summers (average 75°F / 24°C) and mild winters (average 50°F / 10°C). The region is famous for its port wine production, so you can visit the centuries-old cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and cruise the Douro River valley during the dry summer months. For a different experience, spring and fall are ideal for hiking through the Peneda-Gerês National Park without crowds, or exploring the baroque architecture of Braga and the medieval streets of Porto when rain is less frequent.
